The usage of student loans for college has reached a TRILLION dollars.  Students with degrees owe an average of 40 thousand dollars.  They blame it on the federal government and the high tuition cost.  The real blame should be to those who don’t understand the financial aid game.  Every game has rules.  If you don’t know the rules you don’t have a chance to navigate through the system and take advantage of all the opportunities of free resources.  Reading, researching, planning and strategizing helps you to position yourself for better financial results.  Most don’t do that today.  We are living in an error of quick fixes.  A loan by itself can not cause you to go into debt if you don’t sign up to use it.

Contrary to popular belief, there is endless amount of free funding to pay for college.  I am not referring to traditional  college funding (Private Scholarships, Employer Financing, Military Funding, The Tax Relief Program, Federal Grants, State Grants, College Aid and Loans).  There is over $300 billion dollars in Traditional College Funding.  More than enough for every student in the U.S.  I and talking about Non-Traditional College Funding.  Where there are NO strict guidelines. There is endless amount a free financing based on your talents, skills, creativity, street smarts, your hustle.  Your UNIQUE YOU.    It is doing the things legally most students won’t do in order to have the cash most students can’t have.   Each student has their own lane and it is endless.  You have to be willing to work.  Being LAZY negates ALL OPPORTUNITIES.

Have skin in the game, is a phrase coin by financial wizard Warren Buffet.  Which means to be involve in achieving your goal.  Most college-bound students are not involved in the financial aid process in terms of getting free money.  They relied heavily on their parents  to foot the bill.  I don’t believe in that philosophy.  I  believe a student should participate in the money getting process by looking for private scholarships, on campus scholarships, working a job on and off campus, using their skills and talents to attract money to them.  Parents should encourage their children as early as middle school.  I graduated from college without my parents contributing financially.  I instilled the same philosophy to my children.  My oldest daughter graduated from college without my wife and I contributing financially.  My youngest daughter is graduating from high school this year and she is prepared to do the same.  Remember,  getting a college education is for the student. It is their degree.  So they should Have Skin In The Game!
